PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Redhayes Bridge is a £2.95m structure crossing the M5 motorway at Junction 29, near Exeter. It spans 100m and comprises two inclined steel arches from which the steel deck is suspended via cables. The conceptual design of the scheme focussed on achieving a dramatic structure whilst delivering an elegant, efficient and cost-effective solution.The design was developed to maximise pre-fabrication of the bridge, minimising motorway closure time. Architectural enhancements were embraced to benefit the experience of motorway users and pedestrians and cyclists crossing the structure, creating a distinctive reference point for Exeter and the wider South West region.
